Dr. Howard, trained social psychologist, has developed a comprehensive set of field-tested training programs, consulting services and materials for adults and youth. He is also the founder of J. Howard and Associates, a corporate training and consulting firm that is part of the Novations Group, Inc. Dr. Howard holds an A.B. from Harvard College and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard University.
Michele Courton Brown

Michele Courton Brown brings over two decades of management, strategic planning, marketing and organizational development to her role as Chief Operating Officer. In addition to overseeing The Efficacy Institute’s operations, Michele is deeply engaged in program expansion, client relations and training. Prior to joining Efficacy, Michele held executive leadership positions at several Fortune 100 companies. Michele has served on the boards of numerous local and national education organizations.
Barbara M. Logan

Barbara M. Logan's primary roles include facilitating the delivery of services to schools, and supervising the training and certification of internal and external Efficacy Trainers. Ms. Logan's dedication to public education began more than 13 years ago in Milwaukee Public Schools where she served children in elementary and K-8 schools in a myriad of roles, including administrator, classroom teacher, technology teacher and implementer of school programs. Her capacity is bolstered by her undergraduate degree in Education and Psychology, Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction, and graduate coursework in Administrative Leadership and Counseling.
Sherryann Sylvestre

Sherryann Sylvestre has been serving the mission of The Efficacy Institute for over 15 years; she leads the Institute's work with families and the community, providing thought leadership, delivering services, and managing Train-the-Trainer processes. Sherryann trains parents, community-based staff, and educators to use the Efficacy Approach, as well as builds the capacity of parent and community leaders to facilitate Efficacy trainings independent of the Institute. She also has an extensive background working in curriculum and product development, designing Efficacy courses, documenting the effects of the Efficacy Approach, and managing continuous refinement.
Ed Joyce

Ed Joyce joined The Efficacy Institute to continue his life-long work in Mathematics and alternative education. It has been a journey that has gifted Ed with a passionate belief in the awesome learning capacity of all students, especially those who are often seen as out of the mainstream. As Director of Secondary Mathematics for the Boston Public Schools, Ed developed innovative, student-centered, whole language approaches to mathematics instruction. Today he is developing Get Smart - Get Math, a paradigm-changing approach to mathematics education. Additionally, Ed is leading the Institute’s effort to develop data streaming solutions that provide timely, accurate, and easy to understand data on student performance.
Dr. Janet Amani Scott

Dr. Scott brings over 25 years of experience to her current position at The Efficacy Institute, including elementary and university instruction, mentor teaching, training and consulting, and principal coaching. Prior to joining EI Janet worked was as a public school administrator. Her vision for teachers, students, and parents incorporated academic rigor, capacity building for staff, and the development of a more inclusive paradigm. She led the reform effort at her school to exit Program Improvement and received honorable mention from the state of California for that work. Janet has won academic and professional honors, including administrator of the year, as well as regional and state honors for valuing diversity. Janet holds a B.S., two Master degrees of Science, and a doctorate in International-Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco.
Sandy Gilmore

Sanford “Sandy” Gilmore is a trainer and the Director of Community Mobilization for The Efficacy Institute, with an extensive background in the field of clinical psychology and social work. He is responsible for managing execution of the Efficacy approach in schools and communities around the country, including training in strategic planning, staff development and team building to superintendents and their cabinets, and building administrators.
