With over 4,000 enrolled students, Brockton High School is the largest public school in the state of Massachusetts, and one of the largest in the nation. Ten years ago the majority of students were failing state tests, and the school had a one in three drop out rate. Yet the school has improved their scores on state tests every year, and in 2008 and 2009 they outperformed 90% of Massachusetts high schools. How did they accomplish such a quick turnaround? By stressing the importance of reading, writing, speaking and reasoning in every single class room and in every single subject - even gym.
