The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) has released the 2009 test results for 12th grade students. Overall, the results show a modest increase in scores from 2005 to 2009; the seniors gained 2 points in reading and 3 points in mathematics. However, the results also show that one quarter of the students tested scored below basic in reading, and one third scored below basic in mathematics, a measure that indicates that the students "have not mastered these skills," according to NAEP.
