The NAACP has released a report that examines the rising cost of prison systems, and the impact this is having on education. Misplaced Priorities: Over Incarcerate, Under Educate, reports that over the past 20 years, states have increased spending on correctional facilities at six times the rate of funding for higher education. In addition, the report analyzes data from six major US cities, and has found a correlation between low-performing schools and neighborhoods with high incarceration rates.
